2014
Caption Contest

In November of 2014, I entered the New Yorker caption contest for the second time. Using a previous tenant's still-active subscription, I flipped to the back page and submitted an entry. It won.

It was later selected by New Yorker Comics editor Bob Mankoff to be included in a study run by two engineers from Microsoft. They sought to prove that the humor in a single-panel cartoon could be digitally reduced to its discrete parts and graded on its humorousness. In the case of my entry, the engineers' algorithm failed to get the punchline, as its parameters were not case sensitive.
